WRI Ross Center Prize for Cities
Todos al Parque
Barranquilla's citywide parks project shows that inclusive investment in safe, green, healthy public spaces is an effective strategy for developing the economy, empowering marginalized groups, and building trust in public institutions.
CONGRATULATIONS
BARRANQUILLA
A decade ago, Barranquilla lacked quality public spaces. Neighborhoods with neglected parks and public spaces were prone to crime, poor health outcomes and limited social cohesion.
Launched in 2011, the citywide parks and green spaces project, Todos al Parque, has helped to recover public spaces, through a more participatory and equitable process, and reshape city planning.
