A decade ago, Barranquilla lacked quality public spaces. Neighborhoods with neglected parks and public spaces were prone to crime, poor health outcomes and limited social cohesion.

The city's parks and green spaces project, Todos al Parque, shows how to live and thrive in turbulent times through inclusive investment in safe, green, healthy public spaces. Launched in 2011, the citywide initiative has helped to recover public spaces through a more participatory and equitable process and reshape city planning.

93% of households now have a green public space within an 8-minute walk.
